2008-07-25 procmail
For the past few years I've been using maildrop, which delivers to PROPER Maildir format, with /cur, /new and tmp directories. For whatever the reason I could not get the copy at work to deliver to PROPER Maildir format, instead it would insist on delivery to mailbox format, which is totally insane by today's standards. Why not use something that indexes and makes discovery of new mail a relatively easy and painless task? Well all this said, I've knocked together something rather simple that does just this. Over the course of the weekend (well, by Monday I hope) there should be a reasonably capable perl script that does just what I've listed above.
It'll be dropped into code/qmail/maildir when complete.
2008-07-18 packaged
mod_imap is now on my freshmeat page. Hope you find it of use. Thanks to Oden Eriksson who once again has managed to package this before I notify him of the release.
Thanks to George, James, Russel and Gavin who came out to the @uk reunion. Great to see you all again.
2008-07-17 mod-imap
Just finsihed working on the mod-imap initial proof of concept release and submitted to my freshmeat page. This might interest some people who wanted to provide basic authentiation to their IMAP (mail) users. Thus if you wish to allow only your mail users to access the mail archive then this might be one way to achieve that.
Other methods might include extracting the password encryption strings into .htpasswd files but that might be a little too much effort or not possible.
This I hope will be of some use to some people out there.
2008-07-15 unfinished work
It's strange how I get ideas to do projects, start them, do all the research and prototyping but never quite finish the work. The evenings are getting more distracting, the journey to and from work drains a little more of my energy each day and more than everything else, I should be getting myself back to the gym. It's probably been over a year since I've don any exercise really.
It's quite obvious that I'm not the character that I was four years ago when I would be hitting the gym hard three times a week. What I should do right now is perhaps loose two or three stones and then start training again but dramatic change like this is not really something that can happen over night.
Other things are now important to me - the way to push ahead with my life in the corporate world, forging solid friendships with solid characters and building a good reputation for myself. Things that have gone out the window include foreign language - it's just too much to take on right now, MS software - besides the odd game it's just no use to me.
Some things are arriving in the inbox though - mainly what I can get as an audio book and listen to in the car.
2008-07-12 cool like a fool in a swimming pool
Good news, got my module done, now have all the configuration gubbings to put into it, but basically it works, and that's all I'm interested in at the moment.
Also, I learnt a few things on the way too.
As far as learning goes, I think it's fair to say that I've lost most interest in foreign languages at the moment. Once it seemed exciting to be learning new things all the time, but right now there just doesn't seem to be much of a need for it in my life.
2008-07-09 cry me a river
Sometimes music can change the mood. The past two months I've found that some music can really help the way that both head and heart have felt. It takes a long time before I can be totally open and trust someone fully again.
This doesn't show what I really feel so much but it's good to know that there are others out there who also hurt and that I'm not totally alone. Sometimes the people that you love the most are the people who you have to keep secrets of pain and loneliness from so that they don't think you're a complete looser. It reminds me of that song with the lyrics 'happiness is loneliness'.
Enough of the feeling bad. It's high time that I pulled my head out of my own ass and started to work on another module. Lets see how far I don't get tonight, or when Family Guy starts.
As an 'oh by the way' I've found a much better algorithm for calculating pi than the one posted last month. Thanks stephen for the acknowledgements.
